Alligator Adventure in North Myrtle Beach, SC is one of the most highly acclaimed reptile parks in the world. This 15-acre park located in the Barefoot Landing resort complex, is owned and operated by Sam and Jake Puglia, a father-son team. It opened in 1995 providing one of the world’s finest crocodile assemblages, along with a distinguished accumulation of mammals and birds.

Placed in a very attractive natural setting of swamps and marshes, the park provides an intriguing indulgence for all reptile enthusiasts. Quite a variety of reptiles are featured, including alligators, crocodiles, lizards, snakes, tortoises and turtles. Alligator Adventure also showcases large and small cats, lemurs, zebras, beavers and otters.

Alligator Adventure proclaims over 800 alligators. Guests will see numerous gators ranging in size from only eight inches to the mature 15-foot specimens that weigh in from 500-1000 pounds, and all sizes in between. The main alligator exhibit pool can have up to 300 large adults. They even have rare albino gators.

If you can arrange it, be there on the days that they feed Utan, King of the Crocs. He’s a giant crocodile, the largest in the United States. This 20-foot long amazing creature is quite a sight to see, and watching him eat only adds to the overall experience. On last check, he eats on Wednesday and Saturday, but be sure to check on that before you go. You’ll want to get there at least 20 minutes early to secure a good spot to watch.

The Serpentarium is said to be one of the best reptile houses of any zoological park. It features a great display with 38 species of amazing snakes including a green anaconda, the largest species of snake in the world. Visitors will also find various other serpents such as the python, king cobra, rattlesnake and rainbow boa.

Their beautiful Galapagos tortoises are among the favorites at the park. Gabby, the 52 year old female, is the largest one at 450 pounds. There are two Aldabra tortoises as well.

The park also showcases giant alligator snapping turtles, the pig nose turtle, rhinoceros iguana, gila monsters and African bullfrogs, along with many other beautiful creatures. A large blend of exotic birds are housed throughout the park. Macaws, cockatoos, toucans, hornbills and many other birds thrill guests with their songs and vibrant colors.

The cat exhibits are home to many feline species of all sizes such as Siberian tigers, ceracals and African servals. The lemurs, otters and beavers also have their own habitats that provide safe and natural homes.

Alligator Adventure offers loads of thrilling educational fun for all visitors, young or old. Watch alligators leap in the air for their food, learn how these reptiles and mammals live and if you’re lucky, you might even get to pet one of them.

Even though the park is not large, tickets ranging from $9.95 – $15.95 are not unreasonable for such a fascinating experience. Kids under 3 years get in without charge. When you consider that guests are able to return any one day within the next 7 days for a complimentary second day visit to the park, that’s an excellent deal. To show support for our military troops, all active military personnel receive free admission and their guests pay only half price.

Many people like to save the second day visit for the evening time when the animals become more active or to come back to see shows or feedings that they missed or would like to see again. Don’t miss this thrilling opportunity to connect with these amazing and beautiful animals during your stay at Myrtle Beach.
